Terry Shields

With over 30 years of experience in the music industry, I've participated in countless recording sessions and live performances across various musical genres. I'm proficient on both the upright bass and the electric/fretless bass guitar, and always willing to share my vocal skills, particularly a high harmony.

Originally from Chicago, I started my professional music career on bass at the age of fourteen and further honed my skills at Illinois Wesleyan University, earning degrees in Music and Business on a music scholarship.

I currently reside in the Dallas / Ft. Worth area and perform regularly.

My musical journey has been diverse. Genres include rock, blues, country, dance, americana, western swing, rockabilly, bluegrass, jamband, metal, orchestral, and jazz.

My bass playing is influenced by a wide range of musicians, including Paul McCartney, Charles Mingus, John Paul Jones, Ron Carter, Geddy Lee, Stu Hamm, Lee Sklar, Marcus Miller, Rick Danko, Tony Levin, Jimmy Garrison, Timothy B. Schmidt, Sting, James Jamerson, Steve Harris, Roger Waters, Stanley Clarke, Guy Pratt, and Donald "Duck" Dunn.

My current gear setup includes a Rumano Solano upright bass with Velvet Garbo strings, a Shadow Rockabilly Pro, a Realist pickup, and a Fishman preamp. My main electric bass is a 1977 Fender Precision, and I also have a matching fretless version. For amplification, I use equipment from Genzler, Genz Benz, Acoustic Image, Yamaha, and a Line 6 Bass Pod.
